Springfield Golf & Country Club

Hua Hin is one of the most popular golf resorts in Thailand and it continue to grow in popularity for several reasons. It’s very accessible and can be reached from either of Bangkok’s International airports in under three hours and it is also possible to fly directly into Hua Hin from Bangkok. Hua Hin has some of the best beaches in Thailand and many of the best hotels and resorts are located right on the beach which is ideal if you want to relax after your round or intend to take a non-playing wife or girlfriend with you.

The Royal Family maintain a summer palace in Hua Hin and thus the town has not been blighted by go-go bars and massage parlours like many of the other beach resorts in Thailand. This does not mean that you cannot find somewhere to drink or get a massage but it’s a little toned down when compared to Pattaya or Phuket.

Hua Hin is also blessed with some great weather and seems to get less rain and more sunshine than other parts of Thailand, but on the golf course you can often enjoy the cooling sea breezes.

One of the great advantages of the golf courses in Hua Hin is that they don’t charge extra at weekends, which means that you can enjoy great prices every day. If you can plan your trip in August and September, then you can enjoy the Hua Hin Golf Festival when the rates are even cheaper.

Black Mountain Golf Club

A multi-award-winning course which is always in perfect condition and ranks amongst the very best in Thailand

Black Mountain Golf Club, Hua Hin

Black Mountain Golf Club has been beautifully landscaped, and they have maintained many of the original water courses that flow down the course and have turned them into extremely attractive water features. Many of the original trees were kept during the original construction and now that the new trees have had time to mature the course looks very natural.

The West Courses which is a new 9-hole layout new opened for play in 2016 and offers the opportunity to play either composite courses involving the new layout or you can stick to the original championship course.

Black Mountain comes with several tee boxes which are not marked with colours but with the length of the course you wish to play and this makes the course challenging for the top professional and very playable for the average golfer. The fairways are quite generous and the rough is not too punishing although there are some significant elevation changes. The large greens offer a wide choice of pin positions and are well protected by the immaculate bunkers.

The signature is the par-3, 11th hole with along water carry to a virtual island green with hardly any bail-out area although the drop zonae has been placed in a friendly position to minimise card-wrecking scores

Very luxurious and well-equipped clubhouse with great views over the course, excellent food and superb changing facilities & spa. You will also find one of the largest pro shops in Thailand and extensive practice areas.

The Banyan Golf Club, Hua Hin

Banyan Golf Club is an 18-hole championship golf course and has a reputation of being the most natural in the country and is reminiscent of many European courses. The course offers excellent views of the foothills from most of the holes and is one of the most varied layouts in Hua Hin. A choice of six tee boxes means that the course. Cleverly placed water hazards, waste areas, and bunkers are scattered throughout the course. They have also retained some of the original pineapple groves on which the course was built but they rarely come into play but serve as an attractive backdrop.

Springfield Golf & Country Club

Originally designed by Jack Nicklaus and recently upgraded and renovated

Springfield Golf & Country Club, Hua Hin

Springfield Royal Country Club is definitely one of the best golf courses in Hua Hin and being a little further out of town in the foothills you can enjoy lovely views as you make your way around the course. The course started off as an 18-hole layout and the original courses (A & B) were designed by Jack Nicklaus. In 2005 Springfield opened an additional nine holes (Course C) designed by Lee Schmidt and Brian Curley and is the most difficult of the three nines.

The original Nicklaus course is lined with very mature trees and you really feel as though you are in the middle of the countryside – the new course is more open with far less trees.

The course is not exceptionally long but the greens are very well protected in true Nicklaus style and providing you pick one of the six tee boxes to match your skill level you will have a great day.

Majestic Creek Country Club

The course is usually in excellent condition and is one of the more challenging layouts, especially from the back tees.

Majestic Creek Country Club

Majestic Creek Country Club is quite a difficult course and one of the best layouts in Hua Hin and since the 27-hole courses was renovated back in 2012 if has become very popular with locals and tourists.

Majestic Creek Country Club is located in the foothills 20 kms or about 45 minutes west of Hua Hin. As you travel to the course you will pass through a very rural are of Thailand and you are likely to see fields full of sugar cane, tapioca, and pineapple. Majestic Creek has very natural surroundings and the many lakes and streams around the course not only offer a very attractive backdrop but also leads to some challenging tee shots across water.

The 7,000+ yard courses offers several different challenges and those better golfers playing form the back tees will enjoy the challenge of the tee shots over long expanses of water. Most of the holes have some form of pond or stream and the courses is also well protected by some extensive bunkering but most of the time, even if you get slightly off line you can still find a path back to the green.

Sea Pines Golf Club

The only golf course in Hua Hin with holes that overlook the ocean, although it can get crowded and slow

Sea Pines Golf Club

Sea Pines Golf Course was originally owned and managed by the Thai army but recently the management of the course has passed to the private sector so we are hopeful that there will be an upgrade to the maintenance and service in the future.

The course has been built either side of the railway track and you start you round beside the beach before heading inland, passing underneath the railway line to continue the front nine and then return to the beach for the lats few holes to finish once again in front of the clubhouse.

The course is not too difficult, but this can change if the wind starts blowing but under normal conditions most golfers will find the courses very playable but single handicappers might find the course too easy.

The final three holes are the best on the course and offer the best finish to a round in Hua Hin. The 16th is a dogleg par-5 with a particularly challenging approach to the green across water and a greenside bunker to a sloping green although you can bail out left of the green. This is followed by an excellent par-3 with a carry over water to a green surrounded by bunkers – club selection is a real challenge when the wind blows.

The par-4 final hole is a potential card wrecker with a canal bisecting the fairway which requires a carry of more than 200 yards – most will lay up short and go for a finishing par.

Palm Hills Golf Resort

An old favourite which is well worth playing and offers excellent value

Palm Hills Golf Resort

Palm Hills Golf Club is about 15 minutes from the center of Hua Hin and not far from the domestic airport. The course has been open for nearly 30 years and despite its age it remains an excellent track, very good value for money and still very popular with locals and tourists.

The course has been built on a narrow strip of land on gently undulating terrain and the holes on the front nine are quite close so a badly mishit shot can end up on the adjacent fairway. As its name suggests, numerous palm trees line most fairways but he landing areas are quite generous so they should not cause too much trouble.

The back nine works its way up the hill and from the top you can often enjoy good views of the Gulf of Thailand and Hua Hin. The stretch of holes from 10 through 14 are the best holes on the course and the 11th which is the signature hole is a challenging uphill par 3 which makes club selection tricky. The course is usually in excellent condition and the landscaping is beautifully done.

The clubhouse is a bit dated and could use a makeover but the food is good and well priced.

Royal Hua Hin Golf Course

A historic part of Thailand's golfing heritage and the first golf course in the country

Royal Hua Hin Golf Club

Royal Hua Hin was founded in 1924 and was built to cater to the British railway workers and Thai aristocracy living in Hua Hin and is situated right in the centre of town just beside the town’s railway station.

It is a very natural course with very mature trees lining both sides of the fairway. There are some significant elevation changes and you can get some good views from the top of the course.

It’s quite a tight course with the trees narrowing the fairways and the greens are quite small. The course conditioning is inconsistent and you will find the native “cow” grass has encroached and has taken over many of the fairways but if you can overlook this then you will enjoy a relaxed round on the most historic golf course in Thailand.
