Summit Green Valley Chiang Mai is a challenging world class lowlands golf course in picturesque surroundings, in excellent condition, on the outskirts of Chiang Mai about 20 minutes from the city centre.  Although close to the city, this Chiang Mai golf club is still set in beautiful surroundings with plenty of mature trees and native plants.

Whilst the fresh air and mountains views may put you in a relaxed mood you will need to be on your best form if you are to play to your handicap – especially from the back tees. The wide fairways may look inviting but the strategically placed water hazards and fairways bunkers are there to catch you out if you are slightly off line.  If you really go astray then you are likely to end up in the numerous palm trees that line the course which will inevitably cost you a short as you may have no choice but to play out sideways.

The greens are pretty generous and hold well but when the wind blows it can be challenging to get there in regulation.

Some of the stand-out holes include the par-5 5th which requires some decision making off the tee, especially for the longer hitters, who may fancy their chances of carrying the bunkers which if negotiated successfully gives you a chance of reaching the green in two.  Another is the par-4 9th, where you are faced with a knee-trembling tee shot over water whilst at the same time trying to avoid the bunkers lining the fairway.  Your approach is equally daunting and you have to carry more water to reach the elevated island green.

The large clubhouse has excellent dining and spa facilities and the staff will ensure that you have a memorable experience at the end of your day.

Could do better

Reviewed by ; on
The course is quite fun, not difficult with fairly wide fairways or bail out areas, it is not long so course management key. The greens are really the issue as they are completely inconsistent so you have no idea with approach shots whether it is a fast or slow green and whether the ball will hold or not and then putting is a lottery as grains are all over the place and it is hard to know the speeds of each individual green. Most greens are bowl shaped which further complicates things with the inconsistency. As apparently with all Chiang Mai courses there is no marshalling and rounds are incredibly slow, we took 4hrs 45 minutes as a 2 ball. We were stuck behind 4 balls who didn't care, took ridiculous times on greens and were not being marshalled along. Its pretty frustrating but seems to be a common theme with Chiang Mai Golf courses.

Condition good, greens also not bad, but pace of play is very bad

Reviewed by ; on
Our golf game was completely disrupted and ruined. organizing of start of play is chaotic; turnaround on hole 10 was very bad as we have to wait for 5 flights before we can turnaround. Starter told us that the club overbooked and allowed these flights to start before we can turnaround. really bad management of pace of play

Great green and good fairway condition

Reviewed by ; on
Overall experience was above average. Quite satisfied with the condition of the fairway and green but disappointed with the chaotic arrangement at the buggy bay and tee box. Everyone was cutting queu with no one controlling the order of play. Our booked tee time was 9 am but we didn’t tee off till 45 mins later due to suspected queue cutting and slow play inferno of us (5 players).

delightful course the caddies look after the greens !

Reviewed by ; on
This course has well looked after gardens and is in good condition thanks to the caddies who collect cigarette butts that players have the nerve to throw on the grass!! very inconsiderate. the fairways are mainly wide but there are plenty of burgers and water for challenges! The worst part is the club os not helpful to foreign players who need transportation either to or from the course. No one could provide a taxi company to take me back to my hotel which really ruined the lovely experience on the course. I found the front desk rather disappointing but the starter and other people very kind to me.
